209: MRI-Compatible Mechanical Loading Device for Application to Knee Joint Testing

Team Members:

Austin Wetzel, Will Borkowski, Harrison Smith, Rebecca Clements

Sponsor: UD Biomedical Engineering

Sponsor Description:

The Elliott Lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware is a research group that investigates the structure-function relationships in load-bearing fiber-reinforced tissues and joints. These tissues are studied using a hierarchical approach that includes mechanical testing, imaging, and mathematical modeling. Conventional and novel methods are utilized to investigate intervertebral disc, tendon, and meniscus during healthy, developmental, and damaged states. Ultimately, these findings can investigate the onset of disease states, inform the treatments recommended by clinical partners, and identify the purpose of these tissues within the body.
