Sponsor: UD Department of Mechanical Engineering – ASAE
Every year the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International, a group comprising more than 128,000 engineers and technical experts, hosts an Aero Design Competition. This international undergraduate competition to design and build functional model airplanes began in 1986. Currently, there are hundreds of schools that compete and now the University of Delaware’s Mechanical Engineering Department is joining the competition. The project stemmed from interest generated by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) chapter on campus and has now become a Registered Student Organization known as SAE Aero Design (ASAE). This project is funded through generous support from the University's Mechanical Engineering Department, the ASME chapter, and individual donors.
