College of Engineering congratulates outstanding scholars

Six students in the University of Delaware College of Engineering and three UD engineering alumni have been named 2020 recipients of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowships Program (GRFP). Four UD engineering students and two alumni received honorable mentions.

The NSF GRFP program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions, according to NSF.

This year’s winners include chemical engineering doctoral student Brandon Vance, chemical engineering doctoral student Alexandra Oliveira, undergraduate civil engineering student Emily Mongold, civil engineering doctoral student Patricia Hurley, undergraduate biomedical engineering student Ariel Hannum, and mechanical engineering doctoral student Rebecca Davis.

Alumni winners include Lauren Baker, a UD biomedical engineering alumnus and doctoral student at Harvard University; Marisa Bisram, a UD mechanical engineering alumnus and doctoral student at Northwestern University; and Rebecca Huber, a UD chemical engineering alumnus and doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

Honorable mentions went to UD chemical engineering doctoral student Ian Woodward, UD chemical engineering doctoral student Neil Butler, UD chemical engineering doctoral student Morgan Sulzbach, and UD biomedical engineering doctoral student Mackenzie Scully.

UD engineering alumni receiving honorable mentions include Matthew Schmittle, a UD computer science alumnus and doctoral student at the University of Washington and Harrison Landfield, a UD chemical engineering alumnus and doctoral student at Northwestern University.
