University of Delaware professor Arthi Jayaraman has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), a professional society based in the United Kingdom with more than 50,000 members worldwide. The Fellow designation is the RSC’s senior category of membership and is reserved for those with significant experience, expertise and commitment to promoting the value of chemical science.

Jayaraman holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. Her research group develops and applies computational techniques to design and characterize new materials for target applications in energy, optics, photonics and biomedicine.

Fellowship status is awarded with support from peer references that recognize distinguished research careers, scientific impact and leadership in applying chemical science to address societal challenges. Those selected may add the letters FRSC after their name to denote their status as a Fellow.

“I want to share my sincere gratitude to my entire academic family—my mentors, my advisors and my lab’s members over the years—and my many collaborators for enabling me to build a professional record in chemical sciences that the RSC considers worthy of this recognition,” said Jayaraman. She expressed particular thanks to her FRSC application sponsors, UD Distinguished Professor of Materials Science Darrin Pochan and Karen L. Wooley, the W. T. Doherty-Welch Chair in Chemistry at Texas A&M University.
