The University of Delaware Board of Trustees approved promotion and tenure decisions for 82 faculty members at its semiannual meeting on May 13. Sixteen College of Engineering faculty were among those nominated for named professorships, promotions and tenure.

Recommended for named professorships were two engineering faculty members:

  • Weisong Shi, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Computer and Information Sciences
  • Carolyn Voter, Brigid Hawk McVaugh ’74 and John B. McVaugh Jr. ‘71’75M Term Professor of Environmental Engineering

Faculty promoted to the rank of professor who had already been granted tenure:

  • Emily Day, biomedical engineering
  • Guoquan (Paul) Huang, mechanical engineering
  • Ilya Safro, computer and information sciences
  • Ryan Zurakowski, biomedical engineering

Assistant professors who were promoted to the rank of associate professor with tenure:

  • Roghayeh (Leila) Barmaki, computer and information sciences
  • Rahmatollah (Rahmat) Beheshti, computer and information sciences
  • Dong Dai, computer and information sciences
  • Aditya Kunjapur, chemical and biomolecular engineering
  • Xi Peng, computer and information sciences
  • Nektarios Tsoutsos, electrical and computer engineering

Assistant professors who were promoted to associate professor, without tenure:

  • Julie Karand, biomedical engineering
  • Ashutosh Khandha, biomedical engineering

All the appointments above are effective Sept. 1, 2025.

Ioannis Rekleitis, mechanical engineering, was awarded tenure at the rank of associate professor, effective Dec. 4, 2024

Dean Pamela Norris was awarded tenure at the rank of professor in mechanical engineering effective earlier this year.
