The World within the Eye
Confocal Microscopy – Portrait
Each year cataract surgery prevents millions of cases of blindness worldwide. However, the outcomes of the surgery could be improved if we can prevent inflammation that causes post surgical pain and potentially blinding complications. This image shows the distribution of the inflammation regulator COX2 (red) in a mouse model two days after cataract surgery as well as the huge influx of inflammatory cells (green). The ocular anatomy is highlighted by the nuclear stain, Draq5 (blue).
